4 Tips For Cleaning Your Carpet With Pets

If you are an animal lover, you may have a pet or multiple pets that lives in your home. If your home features carpet, pet messes can be hard to clean up. Here are some tips to help keep your home looking and smelling fresh. Sawyer Restoration can also provide carpet cleaning and deep professional cleaning to get those tough messes. Your home should smell and look good always, don’t let man’s best friend keep you from having the best home.

Don’t Stomp Out Wet Messes With Paper Towels

Using paper towels only blots up surface stains and don’t get down to the lower levels of the carpet. Stepping on the paper towel with your foot or pressing down with your hand just pushes the liquids farther down into the carpet padding. The best thing to do, if you don’t choose professional carpet cleaning, is invest in a hand held carpet extractor. An extractor will not keep the smell inside the filter.

Avoid Steam Cleaning

It may seem like an easy option but steam cleaning further sets in pet stains. The heat from the steam is what causes the stains to set and makes it much harder to remove. Steam will also trap odors so even if you remove the stain or liquid from the carpet, the smell will still remain.

Use A Putty Knife

For more solid messes an easy tool that can be used is a putty knife. These are pretty easy to find in stores and should be a staple for pet owners. This can also help you to scrape the mess into a dustpan or other collection method and get it off of the carpet for the professional cleaners.

It is also important to not use rags for solid messes. Scraping them up is a better option when dealing with carpet to avoid pressing the debris and smell further into your carpet and carpet pad.

Avoid Homemade Cleaners

DIY projects are popular but when it comes to carpet cleaning, homemade remedies don’t get to the root of the problem. Ingredients such as vinegar and baking soda simply mask the odor. The odor will return if the carpet is not properly cleaned. Sawyer Restoration and Cleaning can help to get smells and stains out of your carpet permanently. If you would prefer to do it yourself or need to spot treat immediately, purchase a particular cleaner that is designed for pet messes.

Cleaning your carpets correctly keeps toxics, molds and dust out of your home. Removing hair can improve the air quality of your home and the appearance of your home.

Stop Muddy Paws Before They Get Too Far

Letting your furry friend play in your yard is a day to day occurrence. With spring and summer time, paws can get muddy and track that into your home. Wiping the paws of your pets can stop more dirt and mess getting into your carpet. While this may seem like more work, animal specific wipes can help keep paws clean and your home looking and smelling fresh.
